Scalable Tools for Client Consultations

The Design Problem

The Consulting team worked closely with clients to produce assets that require frequent updates, including client-specific branding changes. The team relied heavily on email exchanges, which were difficult to track. They also lack tools to support the more advanced deliverables clients were increasingly requesting. Together, these gaps create redundant, time-consuming work that bottlenecks the process and made it harder to deliver time-sensitive projects on schedule.

The Approach

I have been working with my team on evaluating and defining a set of scalable tools for Consulting:

  • Career Pathways
  • Mission, Vision, and Values
  • Segmentation Tool
  • Organizational Chart
  • Multi-Year Roadmap

I led the creation of these tools and partnered closely with Consulting to ensure the final product aligned with their expectations and needs.

Mission, Vision, and Values

This tool was originally structured as a presentation with exercises completed during the client consultation and filled out by the Consulting team. The file was then sent back to the firm for review, and the Mission, Vision, and Values were finalized through an extended email thread.

I reevaluated the experience by examining how the Consulting team delivered the presentation and what tools were currently available. This process helped me identify gaps and reorder certain steps to improve the overall flow. I recreated the presentation slides to simplify the layout and ensure the branding was cohesive across materials. I also created new assets for Mission, Vision, and Values that eliminated the redundant back-and-forth communication, and introduced the Value Proposition Canvas as an additional tool the Consulting team could use during sessions.

Career Pathways

This tool originally consisted of an Excel file and a presentation illustrating the company’s structure and roles. All information about positions, qualifications, and training requirements depended on email exchanges with the client.

I created editable assets that allowed the Consulting team to quickly capture this information, with the option to send materials ahead of the meeting as pre-work. The role-related assets were also reorganized into two formats: a baseline document showing all positions, and a customizable version that could be built out based on the specific positions developed with each client. I rebuilt the presentation to reformat slide and include the new tools.

The Deliverables

The result was a set of comprehensive tools that helped streamline processes, reducing time, effort, and redundancies. These assets allowed Consulting to focus more on the projects themselves by reducing the number of steps needed to complete the same operations. In some cases, tools such as the Segmentation tool opened up new conversations with clients, helping them better identify their target audience and, in turn, determine which products and services best served that audience.
